55It had been such a great experience to open our doors to fosters which ultimately lead to a foster fail. The rescue has so many great coordinators who have made the process simple and have worked with me to make sure each foster is the right fit. They really go above and beyond trying to find forever homes for their pups and transportation in coordination with local shelters and rescues.

55We drove 3 hours to adopt from this rescue. They do not just allow anyone to rescue, they are diligent and very careful in their decisions so they know these pups will lead a fulfilling and happy life. We were grateful to have been chosen to adopt with them and still stay in touch 4 years later. They care endlessly for their rescues, raising money for surgeries and medical expenses to help save innocent doggy lives. I love seeing the miracles they make happen through dedication and community support.
55Key to Lion's Heart makes adopting do easy while making sure the best matches are made. We have adopted two pups through them. They are kind, caring, fast, efficient and overall the best rescue we've ever worked with!

Pit Bull, Puppy

Key to Lion’s Heart Rescue was founded in January 2018 in honor of Lion, a dog who made a tremendous impact on so many lives. Lion was dumped at a very high kill shelter where his time was up. Without knowing his past, he was pulled by a rescue and placed into a home. Lion was then moved nine times over the course of one year in an effort to find the right home. Unfortunately, the second to last move was that one that forever changed his soul. Just like people, dogs have a breaking point, and Lion had reached his. He had been through more in one year than any dog should ever have to go through in a lifetime. His last move was to a home where he was loved and cared for by a handful of people, his advocates for many months. Unfortunately, it was too late. The pain and suffering he had endured in some of his previous places was more than Lion could overcome. The light in his eyes was gone and he was suffering. In the arms of the people who loved him dearly, we whispered our goodbyes and told him how much we loved him. Humans had failed him. As we kissed him goodbye, we promised Lion that we would do our best to ensure no dog would ever have to endure what he had in his last year. At that moment, we dedicated ourselves to unlocking hope for all dogs by giving a little piece of our hearts to every single one that we can save.

55So many senior dogs have been given a 2nd chances thanks to Reed’s Rescue. It’s easy to place puppies in homes. It takes a special organization to rescue the older dogs put out to pasture and find them their final forever home.
55Being part of Reed’s Rescue for the past 20 months has been amazing! The rescue is 100% volunteer and to witness what we can do with passion, dedication, and big hearts is life changing. We work with senior and fospice dogs. I’ve seen how saving a senior life has not only impacted the pup yet saved a human…from loneliness, heartbreak, or even making the existing household a little more loving. Senior dogs definitely do not get enough attention and are easily the first ones to go, especially with the rise of surrendered dogs, it’s extra hard to see a dog who has been with a family it’s entire life to be left on the steps of a shelter. Scared. Confused. Forgotten. But Reed’s Rescue doesn’t forget. We work tirelessly to spring these seniors, no matter their condition or the medical cost, and work to find them a forever match. It’s a beautiful reminder that no matter how poorly the pup was cared for, or forgotten in the middle of the night, that it still has so much love to give. We want to be able to allow the senior pups to love until the end.

The ones that everyone writes off as too old, the not so fancy, the ones that have suffered so long and deserve their last years to be the best. I love everything they do and stand for!!! May everyone in this rescue receive the same love, care, and recognition of value when they grow old as they are providing for their sweet rescues. ❤️

55Giving older dogs a chance at love before crossing the rainbow bridge
55I began volunteering at the Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland because I wanted to get more exercise in a meaningful way. Little did I know the impact this organization has had on me and the lives of the senior dogs that I have come to know and love. I now know how much the staff and volunteers care for the animals with the mission of rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome. For the seniors that come to the shelter that are unable to find a forever home, it is a place to live their remaining days with compassionate care. However, the Sanctuary works diligently to get its charges a home of their own. While volunteering as a dog walker, I met my soul dog Jelly Bean, who came to live her last days as the center of my world. I am grateful for the work the Sanctuary does on behalf of senior dogs and in support of the community to help the dogs of local senior citizens remain in their homes. I am proud to be a part of this worthy organization.

Having grown up in busy Santa Barbara, Jen, an introvert from an early age, would seek out solitude and serenity away from tourists attractions and droves of people visiting from elsewhere. “My grandparents own 60 acres about a 30 minute drive from here, and I grew up spending every summer and every holiday visiting them on the ranch,” Jen explained. “In Santa Barbara, we wouldn't go to the beach on the weekend because that's where everybody was, so you'd find places off the beaten path where the tourists weren't. For me, the ranch was just my happy place.”

Dalis To The Rescue thumbnail

Dalis To The Rescue

At our rescue, we are not only dedicated to matching our dogs with the perfect home, we are also dedicated to educating our community about the benefits of spaying and neutering as Dalis herself raised the funds to build a surgical room at our rescue where we host low cost spay and neuter clinics for the public. We are not exclusive to one area or county, in fact many people use our services from all over the state of Michigan and even some out of state including Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana. Dalis’ heart belongs to the misunderstood, the old, and the disabled. She always says that her goal is to rescue, but that her dream is that one day she won’t have to.
