55I have fostered and adopted from The London Sanctuary. I deeply respect their efforts to not only physically treat the neglected and abused hunting hounds they find but also their emotional needs. The London Sanctuary is deeply needed in their rural area with the horrific abuse hunting hounds face. They also are trying to change the mind set of hunters in addition to caring for the endless stream of horribly abused hunting hounds. My deepest admiration goes out to them for all they do.
55I love the London Sanctuary, they rescue hounds , dogs that most rescues don’t!

The London Sanctuary is a nonprofit exclusive hound rescue and sanctuary. TLS provides long-term care for dogs who are unable to be placed due to their advanced age or medical needs. We also work to place adoptable hounds in their forever homes who have been rescued from government-run shelters around the Southeastern U.S. or were abandoned forest hounds in more rural areas in NE Florida.

55I have been a volunteer thru my employer prior to COVID. I was so grateful for what they do. The kindness and care they show for every fury friend that comes thru the door. Everyone there has such a large heart. Dogs are shown how good life can be even in a shelter. They truly deserve to be recognized. I have become a regular volunteer.

55So many senior dogs have been given a 2nd chances thanks to Reed’s Rescue. It’s easy to place puppies in homes. It takes a special organization to rescue the older dogs put out to pasture and find them their final forever home.
55Being part of Reed’s Rescue for the past 20 months has been amazing! The rescue is 100% volunteer and to witness what we can do with passion, dedication, and big hearts is life changing. We work with senior and fospice dogs. I’ve seen how saving a senior life has not only impacted the pup yet saved a human…from loneliness, heartbreak, or even making the existing household a little more loving. Senior dogs definitely do not get enough attention and are easily the first ones to go, especially with the rise of surrendered dogs, it’s extra hard to see a dog who has been with a family it’s entire life to be left on the steps of a shelter. Scared. Confused. Forgotten. But Reed’s Rescue doesn’t forget. We work tirelessly to spring these seniors, no matter their condition or the medical cost, and work to find them a forever match. It’s a beautiful reminder that no matter how poorly the pup was cared for, or forgotten in the middle of the night, that it still has so much love to give. We want to be able to allow the senior pups to love until the end.

Reeds Rescue is a non-profit volunteer dog rescue organization serving Baltimore County and surrounding areas. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs of senior age or deemed to be terminally ill from area shelters, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and those in danger of decompensating in the shelter environment. Reeds Rescue will provide nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. Reeds Rescue, the board, and the volunteers will strive to work with area shelters, the community, and other rescues to develop a network of supporters to create a better world for the elderly and terminal pets in need.

55I have adopted 5 times from Adopt a Golden Atlanta. They are very thorough and thoughtful in their adoption and matching process. They offer the best care to their dogs. The fosters are loving and really provide wonderful homes for these rescue dogs. Everyone goes to great lengths to make sure that all of the dogs get taken care of and find the right homes. I am always happy to recommend AGA!!!
55Adopt A Golden Atlanta is a very hands on rescue. They are invested in both their rescues and the fosters and volunteers who work with the pups and each other to help our rescues find their forever home. Their follow thru after the adoption is fantastic - and the doors are always open for adopters to reach out for any help or resources that they feel they may need, hereby ensuring that the placement of the pup is comfortable for all parties concerned. The success of AGA is reflected in the number of returning adopters - to add to their furry family or to, when comfortable, to bring another furry baby into their fold after the loss of another. The extended AGA community speaks volumes for the quality and integrity of the organization!!

Atlanta

Adopt a Golden Atlanta [AGA] is a volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to finding warm, loving permanent homes for Golden Retrievers [both purebred and high golden mixes] in order to prevent them from becoming strays or adding to the shelter overpopulation. If a non-golden is best friends with a golden who is surrendered to us, non golden will not be left behind and will accompany the golden into our program and placed with the golden to live together in their new home. Golden Retrievers, regardless of medical needs or age, will receive comprehensive evaluation, spay/neutering services, veterinary care, behavioral training if required, and safe passage into a permanent loving home. In addition to providing those services, Adopt a Golden Atlanta is intent on treating dog owners who are faced with surrendering their dogs with the utmost respect, understanding and compassion. It is also our obligation to educate and assist the metropolitan Atlanta general public, and dog owners specifically, regarding issues such as responsible pet ownership, spay/neutering, obedience training, and veterinary/specialists referrals. Our goal is to reduce the number of Golden Retrievers sent to shelters. AGA will never allow a golden to die in a shelter. AGA relies solely on donations and has a 501(c)(3) classification with the IRS. Your donation is tax deductible. We also meet the requirements for corporate matching, employee giving and volunteer grant programs.

Why do these dog rescues and shelters focus on Senior dog?

Each dog rescue has its own mission, which is the reason it exists. For example, The London Sanctuary’s mission is 'TLS rescues, rehabilitates, and re-homes dogs from area shelters & abandoned forest hounds. We work to save dogs at-risk of euthanasia. TLS houses a limited number of dogs as care-for-life dogs that cannot be placed either due to age and/or medical conditions. TLS spays/neuters and gives required immunizations and necessary medical treatment to all dogs before placement. TLS attempts to place dogs through online pet-listing services, forums, and social media. TLS thoroughly screens prospective owners with background checks, home and veterinary reference checks. TLS provides ongoing support and education to all adopters even after the adoption is finalized.'.

How can I adopt a Senior dog rescue dog?

Using our list of the top Senior dog rescues and shelters, you can find a reputable shelter. The adoption policies of each shelter varies and you can find information on the shelter profile page. Here is an example adoption policy:
Once you have submitted your application for a TLS hound, it is automatically sent to our application processing team. TLS will reach out to you to establish contact and to coordinate the application process. Each individual over the age of 18 in your household will be subject to a background check. We will conduct a home visit (virtual) to ensure a good fit. If you live in an apartment or rental property, the management company may be asked if it is okay for you to have a dog in your home. If you already have pets, a vet check will be required. A TLS volunteer will ask your vet if your pet is up to date on necessary vaccines, has been spayed/neutered, and is on a heartworm preventative regimen. The London Sanctuary will review the application and, if approved, we will coordinate meet-n-greet and/or finalization of the adoption. Lastly, your new best friend will be scheduled for transport or pick up to start your life together!.

Thousand Oaks, California has been a safe haven for Sniffspot host, Jen, since childhood. Having grown up in busy Santa Barbara, Jen, an introvert from an early age, would seek out solitude and serenity away from tourists attractions and droves of people visiting from elsewhere. “My grandparents own 60 acres about a 30 minute drive from here, and I grew up spending every summer and every holiday visiting them on the ranch,” Jen explained. “In Santa Barbara, we wouldn't go to the beach on the weekend because that's where everybody was, so you'd find places off the beaten path where the tourists weren't. For me, the ranch was just my happy place.”
